Orthodontic issues arise from many causes, including inherited traits and habits like thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting. These issues can disrupt chewing, biting, and speaking, and often affect how your smile looks.
Malocclusions, or bad bites, impact both your dental and overall health. They’ve been linked to problems like digestive issues, tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. But the good news? Orthodontic treatments today are reliable and highly effective. Once your trusted oral care provider diagnoses your condition, they can start the right treatment plan for you.

Overcrowding
When permanent teeth don’t have enough room to come in properly, overcrowding happens. Teeth might twist, get stuck, or grow crooked. This is sometimes called Type I malocclusion. While it may not always be severe, overcrowding can make your smile less attractive and make brushing and flossing tricky.
Overbite
An overbite occurs when your upper teeth extend beyond your lower teeth. In more severe cases, the lower teeth may be completely covered. It’s also known as anterior overlap, Class II retrogathism, or a deep bite. You might notice a protruding upper lip, a gummy smile, or worn front teeth.
Underbite
An underbite is the opposite of an overbite — your lower teeth stick out past your upper teeth. This is sometimes called Class III prognathism or a negative overjet. Often, it’s caused by a shorter upper jaw or a larger lower jaw. Signs include a protruding lower lip and a chin that seems prominent.
Crossbite
Crossbite can happen alongside an underbite or on its own. It involves the lower teeth tilting inward compared to the upper teeth, causing the upper teeth to bite the inside (tongue side) of the lower teeth. This can lead to uneven tooth wear.
